Upgrading a project from Grids1 to Grids 2

We do not recommend upgrading from Grids 1 to Grids 2 for projects deep into development, unless there are features in Grids 2 that can clearly benefit your game.

If you do want to upgrade your project, here are the basic steps you need to follow. (These steps are enough for rect grids, diamond grids, and either pointy or flat hex grids. Some additional steps may be required for other grid types.)

[dropcap style=”dark”]1[/dropcap]Change your cells. For tiled grids that use separate objects for each cell, change your cells to use the new cells. They are similar to previous ones, but do not have clutter such as the “Highlight” and “Rotate” members. Also, we recommend you design your cells to work alongside outs, instead of extending from them as before.

[dropcap style=”dark”]2[/dropcap]Change your grid builders to the new ones. At the moment, there are only two grid builders – one for sprite cells, and one for meshes. Either has to be configured to be 1D, 2D, or 3D. The rounding options are important: for 1D grids, use “Point” rounding, for 2D grids, use “Rect” or “Hex”, and for 3D, use “block”.
