Introduction

This image shows the coordinate setup for a pointy hex grid.

The red, horizontal axis is the x-axis, the skew green axis is the y-axis. The skew blue axis is called the z-axis. The six cardinal directions are:

Term	Definition
East	In the direction of the red axis, to the right.
West	In the direction of the red axis, to the left.
North-east	In the direction of the green axis, to the top-right.
South-west	In the direction of the green axis, to the bottom-left.
North-west	In the direction of the blue axis, to the top-left.
South-east	In the direction of the blue axis, to the bottom-right.
